BIOGRAPHY


 

Annalisa Stroppaone of the most highly acclaimed Italian mezzosopranos of her generation.  

She graduated in singing from the ‘Luca Marenzio’ Conservatory in Brescia summa cum laude with a special mention from the examining board, was brightly awarded a degree by the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at the University of Bergamo, and has been a winner in many international opera singing competitions. 

She made her international debut in 2011 as Cherubino in the opera I due Figaro by Mercadante conducted by Riccardo Muti at the Salzburger Festspiele and, since then, has performed at major theatres worldwide, including Teatro alla Scala (where she has also performed for the opening of two consecutive seasons, in Madama Butterfly and Andrea Chénier, both conducted by Riccardo Chailly), at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Arena di Verona, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Rome Opera theatre, the Teatro Real in Madrid, Liceu in Barcelona, the Colón in Buenos Aires, the Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper, Berlin Staatsoper, at the Hamburg, Dresden and Münich Staasoper, the Tel-Aviv Opera house, Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Montecarlo Opéra, Chorégies d'Orange, Opéra Royal de Wallonie of Liegi, Dutch National Opera and the Concertgebow in Amsterdam.

She has worked with many of the great conductors, including  Roberto Abbado, Armiliato, Campanella, Chung, Frizza, Heras-Casado, Humburg, Luisi, Mehta, Meir Wellber, Oren, Palumbo, Pidò, Santi, Steinberg, Thielemann, in operas that include Carmen, La Favorite, Belisario, Anna Bolena, Norma, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola, Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro, Idomeneo, Il Marito disperato, Il mondo della luna, Orfeo ed Euridice, Roméo et Juliette, Faust, Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Benvenuto Cellini, Nabucco, Rigoletto, Falstaff, La Forza del destino, Cavalleria rusticana, La Gioconda, Hänsel und Gretel.

She also sings in concerts and symphonic works and has performed in the United States in Les nuits d'été by Berlioz with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jaap Van Zweden, in recitals at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, the Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Mozart Requiem at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, in the Verdi Requiem conducted by Teodor Currentzis at the Berlin Philharmonie with the Berliner Philarmoniker and in Saint Petersburg with MusicAeterna; again in the Verdi Requiem conducted by Placido Domingo at the Ljubljana Festival and at the Teatro Comunale in Modena. In 2020 she sang in the Donizetti Requiem conducted by Riccardo Frizza, with the President of the Italian Republic in the audience, to commemorate Covid victims in Bergamo. Following this, she sang in the Mahler Fourth Symphony during the Brescia and Bergamo International Piano Festival and in the Haydn Paukenmesse at Teatro alla Scala.

In 2022 and 2023 she sang as Carmen in the opera of the same name at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, as Adalgisa in Norma at both the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania and the Teatro Regio in Turin, Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Teatro Principal de Palma, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and at the Bregenzer Festspiele, and as Preziosilla in La Forza del Destino at the Parma Verdi Festival. She then debuted as Léonor de Guzman in La Favorite at the Donizetti Opera Festival (to much critical acclaim from the international press), a role she subsequently reprised at the Opéra National de Bordeaux. She performed in La Gioconda at the Teatro Pèrez Galdós in Las Palmas, Anna Bolena at the Teatro San Carlo, Idomeneo at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Madama Butterfly at the Bregenzer Festspiele and Bayerische Staatsoper and Il barbiere di Siviglia in Treviso and Padua.

In the 2023/2024 season she will sing in the Requiem by Camille Saint-Saëns at the Ljubljana Winter Festival, in the Verdi Requiem conducted by Roberto Abbado at the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine and at Teatro La Fenice conducted Myung-Whun Chung, in Carmen Theatro Municipal de São Paulo and will debut as Charlotte in Werther, a role she’ll perform both in Dortmund and Bologna.
